ABOUT ME:

Thalea Smidt is a 24 year old central defensive midfielder for African Champions Mamelodi Sundowns FC. She is also a current International player for the South African womens team, and has also represented South Africa at U20 level and at the World Student games on 3 different occassions.

Thalea has come through the ranks at top amateur teams in Cape Town, before signing for UWC in 2015 and then moving up to Pretoria where she was the Captain of the TUKS team in 2019 and then signed for Sundowns in 2021.

Thalea has a great range of passing, great ball control, reads the game well and is known for anticipating danger and protecting her back 4. She has recently broken into the Senior National Womens team and made her European debut in a game against Holland. Her performance in the African Womens Champions League final where she shut down the tournament’s top goalscorer Evelyn Badu over the 90 minutes.
